Guess the Quote

Guess the Quote gives you a line and asks who said it. No portrait, no voice, no scene — just the words, and four attempts to put a name to them. It is the purest character test on Pokémon Minigames, because the only thing that helps is knowing how each character actually talks.

Every quote in the pool is written in-voice for the character rather than lifted from the anime, so what you are reading is a fair impression of someone's manner: their optimism, their arrogance, their habit of turning everything into a lesson. A new line goes up at midnight UTC, and the shuffle runs through all of them before any repeat.

Read the quote, then type a name. The autocomplete only offers characters who actually appear in the quote pool, and a name that is not on that list does not cost you an attempt — the box just flashes, so a typo is never punished.

You have four attempts. Each wrong name is struck through in your list so you can see what you have ruled out, and four dots at the top count down as you spend them. A hint is available under the quote at any time: a single line describing the speaker, free of charge.

Solving it reveals the speaker with their portrait; missing four times reveals the same panel as a loss. The score rewards efficiency — a first-try solve is worth the most — and the daily leaderboard ranks by time, so it also pays not to sit on the answer.

Start with the register, not the content. A line built on encouragement, one built on a boast and one built on cold analysis point at three completely different parts of the cast before you have thought about the plot at all, and voice is the thing these quotes are written to preserve.

Then use whatever the line is about. A reference to a gym badge, a specific type, a partner Pokémon or a rivalry narrows the field to a handful of people — and the speaker pool is far smaller than the full roster, so you are choosing between the characters who have quotes, not everyone in the anime.

Take the hint when you are down to two. It costs nothing and never counts against your score, and one line describing the speaker is usually enough to break a tie between two characters who would say much the same thing.
